May 23rd - May 26th

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend! I just wish that we could have had a little warmer weather!

Math - Students will be finishing up our Geometry unit with a short quiz on Wednesday. Practice worksheets will be sent home on Tuesday with your child. We have been looking at and building 3D nets. Students have also been learning about Translations. They completed a Translation Shape Art activity on Thursday. Our next math unit will be Measurement. We will look at elapsed time and volume before we move onto our last math unit which will be Algebra. Students will be enjoying activities related to elapsed time this week.

Language -As a culminating activity to end our book clubs, students will be writing a book review about the read aloud that we just finished called "Defiance." I have gone over with them the criteria, and all what needs to be included in their book review.  We have also looked at many examples of book reviews written by kids.Students will be presenting this as a Google Slide Presentation. They will also be using an app called Chatter Pix as part of their presentation. This will be fun! We will be starting a new read aloud called "Kensuke's Kingdom.

Washed up on an island in the Pacific, Michael struggles to survive on his own. With no food and no water, he curls up to die. When he wakes, there is a plate beside him of fish, of fruit, and a bowl of fresh water.  He is not alone…
Michael Morpurgo's classic children's book Kensuke's Kingdom is a thrilling adventure story for ages 9+, and winner of The Children's Book Award (2000).

                                  WRITE A REVIEW

Not sure what to say? Keep these tips in mind:
Be honest: Give your review personality and remember that kids want to know what you REALLY think.
Be detailed: Tell us exactly what you liked or didn't. Was it a story you couldn't put down? Were the characters just like people you know? What made it special?
Be accurate: Be sure to get the title, author, and character names right, plus double-check your spelling and grammar. We aren't able to post reviews that don't make sense or have the wrong information.
DON'T spoil it: Please don't give away the ending! Tell readers enough about the plot to hook.
