It was nice meeting with parents on Thursday night during Parent-Teacher Interviews. It is almost the end of February, and March Break is approaching quickly! Please let me know if your child will be absent before the break begins, or after the break finishes. On Tuesday it will be PJ day as our Eco Team is collecting money for Earth Rangers. So do not forget to wear your pajamas, and if you have a loonie or twoonie to donate, that would be great!
Math - We are continuing with our Number Sense and Numeration unit. Students have been participating in timed multiplication drills and practicing EQAO type questions. This week we will begin 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. Students will be learning different strategies to solve multiplication problems. I will also be showing students some helpful videos. Please have your child continue to practice their multiplication facts on a daily basis. On Monday we will have a Math Specialist from the board coming to Chapel Hill, to work with me and students. We will be talking about Number Talks. A Number Talk is a powerful tool for helping students develop computational fluency when they add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Language - We are continuing with our Read Aloud "Hiding Edith." Students have started working on their first Genius Hour Google Slide Presentation. Students have come up with some creative ideas! I can't wait to see their final product. We will also be looking at The 5 Clue Challenge that I talked about in my Blog last week. #5ClueChallenge. Students are encouraged to continue to read at home. RazKids is a wonderful online reading program that keeps track of your child's reading progress.
