It is hard to believe that we have two more weeks of school left until Christmas Vacation! It will be a busy two weeks! Both grade 5 classes will be getting together on Thursday, December 22nd to host a Christmas Cafe. More information will be going home concerning this event. Parents will be invited to attend. Thank you for your generous donations going towards our Angel Tree Advent Project. Wednesday is the last day to donate gift cards. Remind your child that next week is our Spirit Week. On Monday, it is Green and Red day, Tuesday Holiday Hat day, Wednesday Christmas Sweater day, and Thursday Holiday or Crazy Socks day. A small donation of a loonie or a toonie would be wonderful.
Math - We have finished up our unit on Geometry. Students completed a short quiz on Thursday. Results will go home during the week. If I feel your child does not quite understand certain concepts in Geometry, I will send home practice work after I go over with your child what they did not understand. We spent another great week doing two sessions of Hour of Code. Grade 5's were great teachers to our younger students in Mrs. Maw's and Mr. Kline's classes who joined us for the Hour of Code. We have started a new unit on Data Management. Students will be learning about line graphs. We have started by weighing our backpacks and recording this data on a spreadsheet. We will take this information and compare it with another grade 5 class at St. Clare Catholic School. This data will be used to find mean, median, mode and range.
Language - This week students will finish up their Fractured Fairy Tale. We will be working on a short Media project. Students will choose a Christmas Product and make an advertisement/jingle to go along with this product. They will present this project to the class. We are almost finished our read aloud. Students have enjoyed this book about martial arts and Chinese culture. We will also be getting ready for our Christmas Cafe which will include skits, singing and showcasing our talents!
Students will be taking part in our Advent Liturgy on Monday afternoon. Thank you for continuing to read my Blog and viewing our class pictures on Twitter
