Class Updates

It was a pleasure to meet so many parents during interview night to discuss your child's progress. I will be following up on information that we talked about concerning your child.  If you did not get a chance to meet with me and would like to know how your child is progressing, please write a note in the agenda, or feel free to call me at school.

Students did very well performing in our first Faith Assembly. Students presented to the school what they felt represented a peaceful person. They also sang a beautiful song about peace, joy, and love. I was very proud of all grade 5 boys and girls. They worked hard preparing and practicing. Peace is the next virtue that students will be working on for the month of November.

Math - Students finished up our unit on Patterning with a short math quiz on Wednesday. The results from the quiz will be going home with students on Monday. If I feel your child could use extra practice with the patterning concept, I will send home extra practice sheets to be completed at home. Overall boys and girls did quite well. Our next unit is Geometry. Grade 5 completed their first activity making triangles (equilateral, isosceles, and scalene) out of straws and pipe cleaners. On Monday, we will be working on geoboards and a geoboard program on the Chromebooks allowing students to explore various ways to make different polygons.

Language - Students will continue to present their Partner Biographies next week. When these have been completed, we will be spending some time on grammar and spelling to help improve our writing before we move on to writing our own Fractured Fairy Tales. We will also be finishing up our first Read Aloud and completing activities that go with the book Rapunzel, the One With All the Hair.

Please continue to read my Blog and look at the pictures I post on Twitter,  to see what is happening in the classroom.
